Retrobution is a FusionFall fangame that's a modified version of FusionFall Retro running on a modified version of OpenFusion's server software, which is being developed by a new team of fans. The project was founded and is led by Jade Shrinemaiden, who also assists in the development of OpenFusion.

Released on May 31st, 2021, Retrobution's development is led by Jade Shrinemaden, who also serves as a developer on OpenFusion. Other FusionFall community members have also contributed to the projects development and operation.
Starting not long after the projects release, there have been multiple major updates done to the game, as well as unique events held.

On November 2nd, 2022, the project launched a Twitter account to share news on the games development.
On December 31st, 2022, Jade released an experimental new version of the Retrobution client that expands the games memory limit to 4gb, which could improve the games stability, though it is still in the testing phase.
On July 25th, 2023, an update was released that added Finn to City Hall and the Unstable Nano took the form of his Nano. It was also announced that the actual Finn Nano was in development along with Nanos of Flapjack, Johnny Bravo, Zak Saturday and Alien X.
On July 30th, 2023, Jade released the 1.3.4 version of the Retrobution client that has the 4gb limit as well as several miscellaneous improvements and fixes.
On September 1st, 2024, Jade released the 1.3.5 version of the Retrobution client to solve bundle mismatch issues.
On January 3rd, 2024, CakeLancelot released the latest version of the Retrobution client to solve connection issues and problems that sometimes arose after the 2024 Winter Update.

Differences from FusionFall Retro[]
As Retrobution is built upon the second to last version of FusionFall Retro, it is much more similar to said fan game over the original FusionFall. However, throughout the course of the project's development, the Retro build it was founded upon has been altered in ways that make it play slightly differently than the original version of FusionFall Retro.
- Various optimizations have been made to make the game run better.
- Pressing F5 enables an FPS counter. Pressing F5 again shows a more detailed FPS counter. Pressing F5 a third time disables it.
- New items have been added, most of which are recolors or retextures of existing items from FusionFall Retro and/or the original game.
- As of the Birthday Bash update, items using new models and animated models have been implemented.
- The game's balance has been adjusted so that Player Level and Armor stats matter more in combat.
- Weapon mechanics for Rockets, Melees, and Rifles and Thrown Weapons have been changed in order to make them more viable.
- Rifles have an increased critical hit chance.
- Melees no longer have random critical hits in-exchange for every fourth hit being a guaranteed critical hit that deals 3× damage.
- Rockets' damage increases up to 200% depending on the distance the rocket travels.
- Thrown weapons explode on contact with enemies and apply an 'armor break' debuff. Enemies with the debuff will always take critical hits from all weapons except rockets and other thrown weapons. They've also had their fire rate slightly buffed to match that of Rockets.
- Several mechanics and UI elements have been added or adjusted from the original game.
- A Combat Toggle can be activated and deactivated by pressing F1. This is represented by a crossed-swords icon appearing next to the health bar. It disables the player's ability to open the social interactions menu for other players in front of them, allowing for attacking enemies through them.
- The control binding for horizontal steering after using a Launcher has been changed from the Left and Right arrow keys to the A and D keys.
- Zooming into the in-game map can now be controlled by using the scroll wheel.
- The in-game map can now be moved more precisely by dragging it with the mouse.
- Nanos are animated in the player HUD. The static Nano icons can be reenabled in settings.
- Several rifles have had their projectiles changed.
- The Unstable Nano has currently taken the form of Coop.
- The Panini Nano can be currently obtained from special items called Powdered Flarts.
- A new system for obtaining Nanos has been introduced. Certain Nanos can be obtained from specific items. There are plans for Nanos to be obtained from Nano capsules awarded for defeating bosses and completing races in the future.
- Several Nanos have received updates or fixes.
- Nanos with two types of the same power have had their powers swapped with other Nanos for better power distribution.
- Swampfire's Sleep - Cone has been swapped with Professor Utonium's Drain - Point.
- Megas’ Sleep - Cone has been swapped with Courage’s Drain - Point.
- Wilt’s Snare - Cone has been swapped with Dee Dee’s Damage - Area.
- The Finn Nano's Damage power now plays an effect with his animation.
- The Dee Dee, Edd, Professor Utonium, Mojo Jojo, Flapjack and Courage Nanos have received new textures and icons.
- The Humungousaur Nano's dismiss voice lines have been restored.
- The Nano slots for Flapjack, Johnny Bravo and the two mystery Nanos have been removed.
- The Grim Nano's scythe has proper a proper toon outline and shading.
- Nanos with two types of the same power have had their powers swapped with other Nanos for better power distribution.
- There have been several changes made to Nano Powers.
- Recall - Group has been replaced with a new power, the Dash ability introduced in the original game's Academy Update. Dash is a triggered power that allows the player to dash a short distance and grants invincibility during the dash.
- Snare now slows down an enemy's attack speed, in addition to regular speed. Its slow effect is weaker, but lasts longer.
- Guard no longer blocks Battery Drain. Instead, it grants 1 second of damage invulnerability upon taking damage while holding a melee weapon, and 0.5 seconds of damage invulnerability upon taking damage while holding a ranged weapon.
- Freedom now additionally blocks Battery Drain and Leech.
- Antidote now additionally blocks Eruption attacks, but at the cost of the Nano's entire stamina.
- Damage now works by picking the highest % of player HP vs % of enemy HP. Percentage varies depending on Damage Point, Area, or Cone.
- Leech restores more health.
- Drain - Point drains health faster.
- Several power descriptions have been changed to reflect changes made to certain respective powers.
- All weapon types except for Rockets deal guaranteed critical hits to Sleeping enemies.
- A glitch that increased the height gained from using Rocket while under the effects of a Jump power from a Coco egg has been fixed.
- The crown model in the effect for Scavenge and Bonus powers has been fixed and repositioned above the player's head, as it was originally in 2009 and beta versions of the original game before it became bugged.
- Vehicles show how long they can be rented for.
- The rent period for DX vehicles has been increased to 30 days.
- There are two new permanent vehicles, the Love Bug and Petrosapien X-321. They can be purchased from the vehicle vendors at City Hall and Forsaken Valley.
- Race rewards are not currently in the game.
- Foster's Home has been renamed to Wilson Way, the street the house is located on.
- Mission dialogue and objectives have been rewritten to accommodate this change.
- Fusion Monsters have the same enemy placement as OpenFusion rather than using FusionFall Retro's enemy placement.
- More boss versions of fusion monsters now spawn.
- The world is more populated with monsters, including monsters that went unused in the original FusionFall.
- The Oil Ogre's missing helmet has been reimplemented.
- The Jetskill, Beach Bully, and Fossil Brawler which went unused, but still appeared in the Quick Start Game Guide have been added to their respective areas.
- The Gear Goons and Scoria Cephalopods use their proper icons instead of the icons for the Baleful Brute and Meteoric Sentry.
- The Mini Fusion Echo Echos were revamped. There are now both roaming and idle variants. Fusion Mini Echos can now be found in the Firepits, Huntor's Crest, Dark Glade, and Fuse's Lair. Their respawn time was reduced to an hour.
- The Pumpkin Spawns, originally from FusionFall Retro, have a boss version, the Jumbo Pumpkin Spawn.
- The Rage Roadkiller, Shipwrecker and Mega Fusion Echo Echo have had their drop tables revamped.
- The Shipwrecker's level has been changed to 21.
- The Dark Horntails are not currently in the game.
- Fusion Bubbles, Fusion Numbuh Two, Fusion Dexter and Fusion Numbuh One drop special C.R.A.T.E.S. containing exclusive items.
- Several items have their positions adjusted to avoid clipping.
- These items are the Way Big Helmet, Forever Knights Helmet, the Chowder Hats, the Santa Hats, Clockwork Top Hats, the Delightful Football Helmet, the Dodgeball Helmet, Masked Mumbler Helmet, Mask of the Beast, Samurai Helmet, all four variants of the Dynamo Helmet (boys), the Eightball Fireball Cannon, Wildvine Seed Bomb, Disco Bomb, the Apple of Discords and the Energy Grenade.
- Several items from the original game and FusionFall Retro have been given updates on either their appearance or icon or both.
- All of the items dropped by Don Doom and Bad Max have been given unique textures.
- The Forever Knights Boots have had it's texture fixed as the original one did not match the models UVs.
- The Santa's Helper Booties had it's shader fixed on male characters, it previously did not have toon shading and toon outline.
- The Necrofriggian Set's mask and shirt
- The Bunny Dynamo set has had slight color edits on it's texture and icon.
- The Electric Storm Gun has had a minor color edit on it's texture and icon.
- The Albedo Jacket item's icon and texture were updated to match Albedo's original FusionFall Retro textures.
- The Ace Jackets were given new textures reflective of their original game icons colors and new icons.
- The 2010 Hat has received an updated icon.
- The Candy Pirate Shirt has received an updated icon.
- The Knishmas Kimchi Cloud has been given a rework with a new, animated model and texture updates.
- All Tribal Shirt (Boys) variants have received proper toon shading shadows.
- The Numbuh Two Flight Helmet had a small typo in its description removed.
- The following items have had their transparent materials adjusted so they have a proper white glow in different lighting instances:

- A new feature has been added to Monkey Skyway Agents called Turbo Time. Turbo Time allows players to travel to their destination twice as fast at twice the cost.

- The amount of buy back slots has been increased from 5 to 15 to better prevent players from accidently selling their items.
- Nano power vendors sell Dash power items.
- Health Nano power items are properly named as such instead of 'Heal Nano power item'.
- Guide set vendors have received various revamps:
- There is only one guide vendor per guide.
- There are located next to their respective guide.
- The player cannot buy a guide item unless they have completed the mission it is earned from.
- A new vendor called Fashionable Fatima has been added to Townsville Center. She sells exclusive items at a high price.
- A Nano Station has been added to Camp Kidney.
- Several NPCs from the original game and FusionFall Retro have been changed.
- Frankie, Coop, Chowder and Fred Fredburger have received reworks with updated models, textures and animations.
- Ace, Numbuh Two, Kevin, Numbuh One, Ben, Dexter, Bloo, Professor Utonium, Ed, Samurai Jack, Courage, Cheese, Coco, E.G.G.E.R.s, Tetrax, Mutant Eggplants, Albedo, Kimchi, Magic Tree, Chickens From Outer Space, Mac, Juniper Lee and Monkey Skyway Agents have received new, updated textures and character icons.
- NPCs not originally in FusionFall Retro like Finn, TOM, V.V. Argost and the Clydes have also received new, updated textures and message box icons.
- The Easter E.G.G.E.R. has also received an updated texture for when it appears during Easter.
- Kimchi's updated texture also applies to the vehicle based on him.
- Wilt, Numbuh Five, Numbuh Three, Numbuh Four, Princess, Johnny Bravo, Flapjack, Dexbots, Mandroids and Time Squad Officer James have received updated message box icons.
- Several generic NPCs with missing ears have been fixed.
- Several generic NPCs with the Princess hairstyle using the wrong texture have been fixed.
- The Magic Tree was given voice lines.
- Fred Fredburger's voice lines were updated to be higher quality compared to the original Retro ones.
- Dexter, Computress, Dee Dee, Numbuh Three, Numbuh Four, Numbuh Five, Vilgax and Grim have had their NPC placements slightly adjusted.
- Several generic NPCs at Mount Blackhead have also been readjusted.
- In the 2024 Autumn Update and Halloween event, Croc Pot vendors received a seasonal outfit.
- In the 2024 Ice King Invasion and Knishmas event, Croc Pot vendors received a seasonal outfit.
- In the 2024 Ice King Invasion and Knishmas event, the textures for the bears, foxes and wolves were adjusted to match the snowy world.
- Several enemies from the original game and FusionFall Retro have been changed.
- Fusion Courage, Fusion Tetrax and Fusion Coco have received new, updated textures.
- The Birthday Basher now has a unique mob model and animations based on the Barrel Basher for its use for the 2024 Birthday Bash event.
- In the 2024 Ice King Invasion and Knishmas event, Fusion Spawns spawned in wearing either the Santa Hat, Knishmas Hat or Santa's Helper Hat.
- The panning image featuring Numbuh Five and Ben in the game's tutorial has been updated.
- The Future cannot be skipped.
- Bubbles gives out a new level 15 Mission, Habitat Holmes, related to Rage Roadkiller.
- The Mission Nostalgia Chip features a boss version of the Mandroid Malware Avatars that is encountered right before the battle with Fusion Computress. This enemy drops a special C.R.A.T.E. containing a Mandark Industries Rifle.
- The Fusion Mega Echo Echo C.R.A.T.E. has a new icon.
- The golden Coco's Egg has a new icon.
- Regular and golden Coco eggs have new textures.
- The Foster's Home interior is now treated as an instance. Similar to infected zones, the player cannot use vehicles nor warp into it while in a group without group members being nearby.
- This was done to prevent a glitch where if players logged out while in the interior and logged back in, they would find themselves in a version of the interior without NPCs, including the key needed to leave. Players could still escape using Warp Away or warping to a friend.
- The key that warps to the Foster's Home interior has an NPC icon.
- The Past and Future's skyboxes, Planet Fusion and the Halloween Moon in the sky have been updated.
- The Knishmas sky have been updated to have a universal sky color everywhere.
- The Knishmas falling snow has been given an updated texture and farther range around the player.
- The color of shadows of NPCs, Nanos and Fusions using a Toon Outline have been changed to no longer be greyscale.
- A bug where players wouldn’t see messages sent while they’re in their inventory or options menu has been fixed.
- Several changes to the game's UI have been made.
- GUI scaling has been added to settings. It scales the game's UI with the player's computer screen.
- Items can be transferred from your inventory to banks by simply right-clicking in the banking menu.
- Missions are displayed on the map.
- The map can be dragged with left-click.
- All icons for NPCs/vendors/resurrect 'ems are displayed on the map regardless of the player's range from them.
- Scrolling with the mouse in menus no longer only scrolls to the top and bottom of the menu.
- The image that asks you if you would like to travel to the Past uses official artwork instead of 3D models as the models have outdated textures.
- The speed of the Slider has been increased from 1500 to 2000.
- A bug causing the Slider to not stop at bus stations has been fixed.
- Two new music tracks have been added that play in Tech Square and the Foster's Home interior.
- The Game Guide has been updated to remove beta screenshots that don't represent the final game and replaced with images from the current version.
- Some events have characters be controlled by game masters to assist the Avatar in battle and/or lead them along a path to a destination.
