The Nano insignia, from Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall.
Nanos are creatures that appear in the Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall franchise. They are artificial simulacrums with special powers that are based on entities from around the Cartoon Network Universe, and are the greatest weapons on the Earth for opposing the Fusion Invasion.[1][2] They were created by the unlikely team of Dexter and Mandark, and are the heroic counterparts to Fusions.[1]
Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall initially released thirty-six Nanos, with more being released following the Academy expansion, adding up to a total of fifty-six Nanos.
Physical appearance[]

The Nanos' designs are different from the in-game versions of their counterparts, with most of them being more resemblance to their appearances in their respective cartoons, with some exceptions.
Gameplay[]
In gameplay, Nanos are designed to assist players by giving them special abilities or boosts.[3] The player can collect lots of Nanos in their Nano Book, but they can only have three equipped to their NanoCom at a time, which showcases their equipped Nanos' following attributes:
- A/B/C: Whether the Nano is an Adaptium (A), Blastons (B), or Cosmix (C) type.
- Power: An icon showcasing which Nano Power the Nano has and if it is ready for use.
- Stamina level: Displays the stamina bar, which shows how much stamina the Nano has regained while resting.

The player can see information on the Nanos they have collected and which ones they are still missing by pressing [N] key or by clicking on the "NANO" tab once on the character screen. Clicking on a Nano there opens the description window for that Nano containing the following data:
- Type: Lists the type of the Nano.
- Powers: Shows the Nano Power that the player has selected for the Nano and others that the Nano could have.
- Mission: Lists the mission which grants the Nano, who gives it and its level.
To earn a Nano, the player must usually complete Nano Missions, which often involves defeating a Fusion/boss monster. Upon completing such a mission, a new Nano will be created and automatically added to the player's collection. Upon receiving a new Nano, the player must then select one of three possible Nano Powers for it. There are 108 different Nano Powers organized into twenty different types.
Occasionally, certain exclusive Nanos may be available by other means, but these special cases are very rare. Such Nanos could be gained by redeeming codes that give the player a Nano Capsule without having to participate in a previously established Nano Mission.
If the player wants to switch a Nano's Nano Power out for either of the two other options for an active Nano Power, they can go to a Nano Station where they can make the switch. To change a Nano Power however, the player will need enough Fusion Matter and Power Items of the type of Nano Power the player wants to activate. The required amount of those resources can be revealed by consulting a Nano's power chart at the Nano Station or in the Avatar's Menu. The player can as well swap out Nanos in their NanoCom with those in their Nano Book at Nano Stations as well, albeit for free.
By feeding Nanos Gumballs, the player can give the former ten minute-long bursts of power that boosts their Nano Powers and endurance. Notably, Gumballs comes in flavors that corresponds to one of the Nano types (i.e. Adaptium, Blastons, and Cosmix). One can only use a Gumball on a Nano of the corresponding type, meaning that an Adaptium Gumball can only be fed to an Adaptium-type Nano, and so on. While a Nano is strengthened by a Gumball, it will gain a flaming aura in the color responding to its type on the HUD.
In combat, Nanos can assist the Avatar by boosting their stats and by providing special powers and abilities for battle and defense. Nanos provide as well specialized benefits in combat if they are fighting the right type of monster. However, a Nano's combat effects and powers only work when that Nano is summoned. To summon a Nano, simply hit its corresponding key -- [1], [2] or [3] -- as designated in the NanoCom. Notably, like Nanos, monsters are divided into three types: Adaptium, Blastons, or Cosmix. In combat, like in a game of rock/paper/scissors, these types react different to each type: Adaptium trumps Blastons, Blastons trumps Cosmix, and Cosmix trumps Adaptium. Depending on the Nano the player has summoned when fighting a monster, the game will inform the player of how their Nano stands advantage-wise in the monster's information window. If there is a green check-mark, the Nano grants the Avatar a damage bonus against that monster; if there is an equal sign, the Nano grants neither the Avatar nor the monster a damage bonus; and if there is a red X-sign, the Nano makes the Avatar's deal less damage against the monster. Additionally, Nanos and their types can be used to counter Corruption Attacks. As a monster starts to glow in the color of the attack (blue for Adaptium, red for Blastons, or yellow for Cosmix) before launching it, having different Nanos out will yield different effects from the Corruption Attack. If the player's active Nano beats the attack's type, the Nano will get a boost in stamina; if the active Nano is vulnerable to the attack's type, they will lose a lot of stamina; and if the active Nano's type is the same as the attack's, the Nano will be unaffected.

A Nano Potion's effect on a Nano, from Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall.
Despite their advantages in battle, Nanos slowly lose stamina in their stamina bar while summoned, and they lose additional stamina when using their Nano Powers. Notably, if the Nano has a passive Nano Power, its stamina will drain at an accelerated rate. Powers that require manual activation will drain a large amount of stamina at once. Nano Powers like the Guard, Antidote, and Freedom powers will also drain some stamina when the effect to counter is triggered. For example, if a monster uses Stun - Cone, a Nano with the Freedom power will lose some stamina in order to prevent the effect. However, the Recall and Revive powers will drain a large amount of stamina. A Nano with low stamina will become visibly tired. If a Nano uses up all of its stamina and unsummons itself, or is put away while tired, it will have to rest for a while before it can be summoned again. This is illustrated by the picture of the exhausted Nano in the HUD sinking into its slot. The player must then wait for it to recover a minimum amount of stamina before it can become usable again. However, a Nano's stamina can also be regained by giving it Nano Potions while it is still summoned.

The Avatar acquiring the Darwin Nano, from OpenFusion.
Nanos were one of the primary components of the leveling system during the initial run of Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall. Back then, the player could acquire one Nano for each level; once a player had gathered enough Fusion Matter, the player would automatically receive the Nano Mission for their level. After such a mission would be completed, the respective Nano was then awarded, and the player leveled up. This stopped being the case after the the Academy expansion, where an available set of Nano Missions became available every four levels.
Additionally, if the player has their Avatar perform an emote, the Nano will mimic it if it is summoned.
History[]
Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall[]
Fusion Invasion[]
The Future[]
In the Future, the Nanos were apparently created in conjunction with the Great Machine, a device seemingly created by Dexter and Mandark that made it possible for people with NanoComs to synthesize Nanos from Fusion Matter.[1][4][5] Though they were intended to turn the tides of the Fusion Invasion in the favor of the Earth by giving the latter's soldiers the best way to fight against the invaders, their creation seemingly came too late; by the time of the Avatar's arrival in the Future, Planet Fusion was getting close to absorbing the Earth.[6][7][8]
When the Avatar appeared in the Future due to a malfunctioning time travel experiment, Dexter came up with a plan of action: by rebuilding the Time Machine, they could sent the Avatar back to the Past and have them bring the Nanos with them, which would give the heroes the power to stop the Fusion Invasion at the right time and prevent their dark future.[9] After acquiring a Buttercup Nano during their escape from Tech Square, the Avatar spent the next period collecting Nanos of Numbuh Two, Eddy, and Eduardo, before getting sent back to the Past by the remaining heroes using the repaired Time Machine, along with their four Nanos.
The Past[]

A female Avatar summoning a Dexter Nano, from Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall.
In the Past, the Nanos were created by the unlikely team of Dexter and Mandark;[1] using a message they received from the Future, the pair was able to determine how to create Nanos by harnessing the essence of the invaders from Planet Fusion.[2][10][11] To help soldiers with NanoComs synthesize Nanos, the pair created the Great Machine.[12][13] As Nanos got mass-produced and distributed among the soldiers, they would become the greatest weapon against Planet Fusion's invaders.[2]
Nano creation[]

A Buttercup Nano forming after the defeat of Fusion Buttercup, from OpenFusion.
The means of creating a Nano follows the same basic technology as the one for Fusions.[1] To make a Nano, three things are needed: Fusion Matter, a personal item from the character the Nano is meant to represent that contains their essence, and one's own imagination.[1][10] This is usually achieved through the phenomenon of defeating a Fusion possessing a Creation Item while wielding enough Fusion Matter.[14] Alternatively, machines like Dexter's Nano Creation Device can make Nanos as well.
Essential to what makes the synthetization of Nanos possible is the Great Machine, which allows soldiers to make Nanos everywhere.[13] The more Nanos a person acquires though, the more Fusion Matter is needed to create new ones; as new Nanos have to bond with their wielder and all their other Nanos, it will take more raw elements each time.[1]
Characteristics and traits[]

Nanos possess an unspecified degree of sapience, enough to complete simple acts on their own without straying from their bonded person's side. They also known to have a passion for dancing; whenever their wielder starts dancing, so will their Nano.[1]
Powers and abilities[]
Despite their small sizes, the Nanos are not to be underestimated, as their short statures belie great power.[5] In fact, even though Nanos are much smaller than their villainous counterparts, the Fusions, they are just as powerful.[1]
- Levitation: The Nanos are able to float and move around in midair.
- Nano Powers: The Nanos' primary abilities lie in their Nano Powers, special abilities that they can lend to the soldiers they have bonded with. These abilities can include speed boosts, increased agility, monentarily empowered attacks, paralyzation inducements, and much more.

Trivia[]
- Megas and Swampfire are the only who share three identical powers, Sleep ‒ Cone, Sneak ‒ Self and Sleep ‒ Area.
- Codename: Kids Next Door is the only show that has at least one character from the show in all three Nano types (Adaptium ‒ Numbuh Two; Blastons ‒ Numbuh Five and Numbuh One; and Cosmix ‒ Numbuh Four and Numbuh Three).
- The Rath Nano is the only one of Ben's aliens that is a Blastons Nano.
- Oddly enough, the Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup Nanos are not identical to their cartoon counterparts, as they deviate from both the FusionFall versions and the cartoon versions.
- The Belladonna Nano also deviates from the FusionFall version, as Belladonna doesn't wear striped socks nor a Gangreen Gang shirt.
- The Ice King Nano was originally intended to be released as a code Nano, as seen above, but received a mission of his own in a stand-alone update. Another notable difference from his pre-release stage is that he was originally classified as a Cosmix Nano.
- Grim and Darwin are the only Nanos whose three powers all have group effects.
- There is a glitch, whereby a Heal ‒ Group Nano (Blastons is the only type that the glitch encompasses), like the Cheese Nano, will heal only the user of the Nano.
- Nano Cheese's Health power recharges faster than any other Nano's.
- Van Kleiss' Nano model is a smaller version of his model in the Generator Rex videogame Abysus Arena.

- Strangely enough, one of the Nano icons shown was that of the Lodestar Helmet, seemingly in place of a Nano of Lodestar.
- Nanos tend to have slightly higher pitch voices from their representing character. Some characters' Nanos don't retain this attribute. The Academy Nanos have extremely high-pitched voices.
- The Mordecai Nano does not have any toon shading, even if toon shading is turned on.
- However, the Mordecai Nano in the Nano Incubator on Mt. Neverest has toon shading.
- In the game's code, there is a 0th Nano, which acts as a placeholder with no stats or attributes attached to it.
- The models for the Mandy Nano and the Dexter Nano were used for an advertisement of Checkered Past by Adult Swim.[53]
